June Leadership Opportunities

Looking to sharpen your skills? Make connections? Each month, WILMA will highlight upcoming business-related events in the area to help you track down ways to get involved as part of the Women to Watch Leadership Initiative.

June 1: Stuart Veale, founder and managing director of the Investment Performance Institute, is the guest speaker at the INVESTORS ROUNDTABLE OF WILMINGTON’s meeting, noon at Country Club of Landfall. Veale, who has served as SVP of portfolio strategy and design at Prudential Securities and SVP of advanced training at UBS/Paine Webber, talks about the impact of recent geo-political events, investment opportunities, and risks facing U.S investors. June 1: CFCC’s Small Business Center holds a free seminar on “STARTING A SMALL BUSINESS ON A LIMITED BUDGET” at the school’s downtown campus 6-8 p.m. Click for more.

June 2: The North Carolina Republican Party holds its NCGOP STATE CONVENTION this year at the Wilmington Convention Center, with White House counselor Kellyanne Conway as a keynote speaker. Click for more.

June 5: UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) holds a four-week WEBSITE BASICS SERIES. The workshops, discussing websites, applications, marketing, and social media for small business, take place on Mondays from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the CIE, 803 South College Road. Click for more.

June 5: The Small Business Administration also holds a summer workshop series for its SBA ENTREPRENEURIAL ACADEMY on Mondays from 4-6 p.m. at the CIE. This month’s topics cover managing small business cash flow, marketing for greater profits, and more. Click for more.

June 13: Attorney Carla Gannon speaks about “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW” to help business owners identify potential and existing intellectual property issues, guidance in determining appropriate strategies, and examples of common pitfalls and costly missteps. June 14: The WILMINGTON AREA HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION holds its monthly meeting at the new Blackfinn Ameripub. RSVP to 332-8747. Click for more.

June 15: UNCW’s new basketball coach C.B. McGrath is the speaker for the Greater Wilmington Business Journal’s next POWER BREAKFAST 7:30-945 a.m. at the Wilmington Convention Center. McGrath will talk about lessons other organizations can learn from his experience on topics such as recruiting and leadership styles. Click for more.

June 16: Coastal Children’s Services’ eleventh annual NEONATAL SYMPOSIUM takes place at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with visiting physicians and professors presenting on topics such as Zika virus and preemies’ brain development. Click for more.

June 21: PORT CITY YOUNG PROFESSIONAL’s monthly networking event takes place 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Bill Clark Homes-Hanover Lakes Model Home, 2013 Castle Hayne Road. Click for more.

June 27: WILMA’s Women to Watch Leadership Initiative holds a GROUP MENTORING EVENT 5-7 p.m. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Mentees will have the opportunity to talk with area leaders about career and leadership topics and advice. Click for more.

June 28: CFCC’s Small Business Center holds a free three-part series on “SIMPLE STEPS TO A WELL RUN BUSINESS” on June 28, July 19, and August 2 at the school’s downtown campus at 6-8 p.m. each session. Click for more.
